Summer internships

The deadline for applications to our 2017 summer internship programme has now closed

Our internship programme is an excellent opportunity for students to gain valuable experience within the sport sector.

Whether you're interested in grants management, ICT, legal services or volunteering, our internships offer you the opportunity to learn more and apply your skills within the sport sector.

The programme runs for 12 weeks, starting in June and ending in August.

You're able to play a key role within your chosen department and gain an understanding of working life at Sport England.

Who can apply?

Our internships cover various areas of the organisation and are open to all students who have at least one year remaining to complete their degree. Whichever business area of Sport England you might be interested in, we have an opportunity for you.

My line manager was great and I couldn't have asked for better. I have absolutely loved the experience and wouldn't change a thing

You're able to choose from seven programmes across different areas, including:

  • CEO Office
  • Finance
  • Grants management
  • ICT
  • Legal services
  • Urban planning
  • Volunteering

You don't have to be sporty to work at Sport England either. We're keen to hear from all students, including non-sporty ones, that have the skills and appetite to work in the sport sector.

The deadline for applications to our summer internship programme has now closed.

What you will be doing

You will be given a range of interesting and challenging tasks during the 12-week programme.

You might manage your own project, work with our research team on interpreting data or manage information related to one of our new funding programmes.

Our intern programme is a great benefit to us as an organisation. It helps us get some fresh thinking and different, younger perspectives

You will also have a vital role in putting together and carrying out a research project throughout the duration of the internship.

No two days will be the same. We're keen for you to take responsibility and work on interesting tasks you can really get your teeth into.

Support and guidance

You will be supported along the way by your line manager and our HR team. You'll be offered careers training and an opportunity to get out of the office and visit some of the projects we invest in.

You'll have the unique opportunity to gain practical experience that gives you a glimpse into how each team works together as we put our strategy into practice – and work towards an active nation.
