Historic funds

In April 2024 we launched our Movement Fund, designed to streamline the process of applying for funding from us.

The £160 million fund offers crowdfunding pledges, grants - of up to £15,000 - and resources to help projects that encourage active lifestyles and create enriching experiences for local communities.

In the years before the Movement Fund we had a series of other funds, with similar offerings, that have since been closed down and condensed into the single Movement Fund - simplifying the process for those seeking support.

This page is here to provide a historical record of those previous funds - about which you can find out more by clicking on the links below.

Small Grants Programme

This fund developed opportunities for communities to get more people physically active - supporting new projects by offering National Lottery funding of between £300 and £15,000.

Small Grants

Active Together

This crowdfunding initiative match funded successful Crowdfunder campaigns with pledges of up to £10,000 from a total pot of £7.5 million.

It helped local clubs and organisations to run their own campaigns, fundraising for things such as covering for a loss of income due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Active Together

Together Fund

The Together Fund was a £20m fund following on from the Tackling Inequalities Fund, which helped reduce the negative impact of the Covid-19 pandemic and the widening of the inequalities in sport and physical activity.

We worked with active partnerships and selected national partners to connect funding to local community organisations who were best placed to support our priority audiences through their extensive reach and networks.

Community Emergency Fund

This fund helped community sport and physical activity organisations who were experiencing short-term financial hardship, or the ceasing of operations, due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Places and Spaces

This fund matched pledges of up to £10,000 in match funding for Crowdfunder projects, from a total pot of £7m. It was part of our investment into the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games, with the aim of helping community sport and physical activity groups improve places and spaces to be active across the country.

Volunteering funds

The two volunteering funds – Potentials and Opportunity Funds – supported different ways to bring the benefits of volunteering in sport and physical activity to new audiences.

We worked with a range of new partners, such as the #iwill Fund to invest up to £30m in more than 30 volunteering projects across the country.

Tackling Inactivity in Colleges

This fund invested £5m across 49 colleges to help more students live active lives. It aimed to help reduce the number of students in Further Education who were inactive by improving their attitudes towards physical activity.
