About Volunteering Q&A
Volunteers make a vital contribution to community sport. Our Active Lives Adult Survey shows that a total of 6.2 million adults give their time at least twice a year to help make sport and physical activity happen.
With that in mind, we’ve compiled a series of questions and answers designed to help your organisation or project achieve its goals while creating a more enjoyable, meaningful volunteering experience for all.
The comprehensive list of questions are split into seven separate sections: getting started, volunteering and the law, safeguarding & health and safety, diversity, support, planning and organising, and dealing with issues.
Getting started
The first section of Volunteering Q&A covers the basics you need to get your volunteering project or organisation started.
Volunteering and the law
Questions covering topics including paying for volunteer expenses, providing insurance cover and the legal difference between employees and volunteers.
Safeguarding & health and safety
This section covers topics including DBS check requirements, safeguarding procedures and assessing and managing risk.
Diversity
Questions covering topics including how to offer more volunteering opportunities to disabled people and how to get volunteers from more diverse backgrounds.
Support
Here we answer questions around the resource and support networks available to volunteers and volunteering projects.
Planning and organising
Covering how to develop your own volunteering strategy, writing role descriptions and using volunteer managing systems.
Dealing with issues
The final section answers frequently asked questions about dealing with issues within your volunteering organisation.
