Consents

What is consent?

Consent is formal permission from Sport England in relation to Sport England funded projects or activities.

Why do you need consent?

Consent is usually required in two cases:

1. If your organisation has received funding from Sport England, the chances are the funding agreement includes some reference to you getting consent from Sport England before you can do specific things or change anything in relation to the projects or activities outlined in the funding agreement.

or

2. You or your organisation may not have received funding but are affected because Sport England has a registered restriction or charge on property linked to funding we have provided. Since restrictions or charges are registered at the Land Registry, an application you have made may need our consent before it can proceed.

There may be other cases where you are unsure whether you need Sport England’s consent in relation to a funded matter, so you can also send an enquiry to the email address provided below.

How to get our consent

Getting our consent is a formal process, so you must tell us what you need by contacting our consents team with the details of your request. Email [email protected].

What should you send?

1. Proof that you are allowed to make the request in the first place as a representative of the organisation that received the funding, such as a copy of the signed funding agreement and/or the Sport England unique reference number (URN) found on the funding paperwork and funding agreement.

2. If your request relates to a Land Registry restriction and/or charge, we will need a copy of the property title deeds (Register and Title Plan), no more than three months old.

3. If your request involves transferring the funding agreement to another organisation, you should send the new organisation’s up-to-date governing document.

4. If your request involves consent to a new lease agreement, you should send a final draft copy of the lease agreement, including the plan.

5. If your request involves a change of trustees, you should send copies of the Deed of Retirement (of old) and Appointment of (new) Trustees and signed minutes from your organisation’s meeting to show the change of trustees was approved.

We may require further information from you to process the request.

Do we charge to process your request?

We do not charge any fees for consent requests.

How long it takes to process your request

Due to the high volume of consent requests received by Sport England, it can take a minimum of 12 weeks from the date that you have provided all the information we need to process your request.
