Take on the #MyMiles challenge

Join in the #MyMiles challenge during SportsAid Week – and help raise money to support talented young athletes

20th September 2017

Starting from Monday 25 September, you can take part in the #MyMiles social media campaign as part of SportsAid Week 2017.

SportsAid Week – launched last year to mark the charity’s 40th anniversary – returns to help raise money to support talented young athletes.

HOW TO TAKE PART

You can do a single mile or as many as 40 in any way, shape or form.

You might run to work or school, cycle with friends, swim a mile at your local pool or take a walk in the countryside.

Whatever distance you do and however you do it, you can play your part.

And if it's not easy to record the distance of your activity, don’t worry. The challenge is designed so everybody can take part.

Twenty minutes of activity counts as one mile during SportsAid Week – so whether you strike a pose during a yoga session, lift weights in the gym or take part in a bout of boxing, you can join in and share your activity.

DON’T FORGET TO DONATE

Once you’ve done your mile, share a video or photo on social media and nominate somebody you know to continue the chain.

And don’t forget to finish by texting 'WEEK40 £2' to 70070 to help Britain's brightest sporting prospects during the critical early stages of their careers.

Double Olympic medallist and taekwondo star, Lutalo Muhammad, is one of the thousands of young athletes SportsAid has supported since 1976.

“You see the financial pressure you’re putting on your mum and dad, all because they want to help you achieve your dream of becoming Olympic champion,” says Lutalo.

“So receiving that support from the outside provides you with the recognition you’re going in the right direction.

“I want more young talented athletes to have the support SportsAid gave me – and you can help make this happen.”

SUPPORTING TALENT

SportsAid helps over 1,000 athletes across more than 60 sports each year and relies on donations and support from us.

All the money raised assists young sports stars with training and competition costs, including equipment, accommodation and transport, during the critical early stages of their careers.

More than £40,000 was raised during SportsAid Week last year as Olympians, Paralympians, up-and-coming athletes, national governing bodies of sport, schools, universities, commercial organisations and individuals rallied together for a week of fun and fundraising.

The success of its first year has led to SportsAid Week becoming an annual fixture – and the charity is looking for you to play your part next week.
