In the first of a series of reports, we uncover the statistics that reveal why women are less active than men.

Spotlight on Gender takes the headline results of our Active Lives Adult Survey – which measures the overall picture of adults’ sport and activity habits in England – and reveals underlying reasons why more men are getting active than women.

Focusing on the gender gap, the report unpicks the differences between how men and women engage with sport and physical activity, looking at factors like ethnicity, pregnancy and retirement.

It’s the first of what will be a series of reports that scratch beneath the surface of our Active Lives Adult Survey results.

Each report provides talking points on what the data is telling us – and how we and our partners can overcome the challenges we're faced with.

Our next report will focus on why people from lower socio-economic backgrounds are less likely to be active.
