Together Fund

This fund exists to help to reduce the negative impact of coronavirus and help community groups working with our target audiences to grow and help more people.

About the fund

The Together Fund is a continuation of the Tackling Inequalities Fund that was set up in April 2020 as part of our support package to help the sport and physical activity sector through the coronavirus (Covid-19) crisis.

It will see another £20 million of National Lottery be committed to help the groups that, from our insight, we can see were being disproportionately affected by the pandemic and it was significantly impacting their ability to be physically active.

TIF's £20m was invested in four key audiences and the money from the Together Fund will be spent in the same way - these priority audiences are:

  • Lower socio-economic groups
  • Culturally diverse communities
  • Disabled people
  • People with long-term health conditions.

Since its launch, TIF has enabled community groups to continue to exist and engage with their communities, supporting people to be engaged and active.

TIF funding will last up until December 2022, with the new Together Fund investment running to March 2023 and intended to help further growth and recovery of community organisations working with our target audiences.

Our approach

This is a targeted fund that's been designed to deal with the issues caused as a result of coronavirus and aims to support community organisations working with priority audiences, so they have a future to plan for.

TIF support is intended to meet both immediate need and the early recovery stages, up until December 2022.

Together Fund support is now designed to enable further recovery and growth up until March 2023.

In order to reach those who needed our help the most, we knew we needed to do things differently. We knew partners we're working with had an extensive network and reach to local community organisations, and often those who may not usually be reached through our own direct channels.

This includes our network of 43 Active Partnerships and more than 30 national partners, who we knew could help to connect funding to where it's needed locally, utilising their expertise, connections and local insight.

While the need for this funding is being defined locally, the types of activity that's been funded includes:

  • Funding for community groups to find new ways to support people to be active
  • Offering advice and training support
  • Increasing resilience, capacity and capability of delivery bodies.

We'll continue to identify new national partners that can provide the additional reach into specific communities, helping us to distribute this.

Our story so far

In order to do things differently we knew we had to think differently about how we understand and share the learning and impact we're creating together.

We've focused on creating opportunities for everyone involved to tell their own story of how TIF is making a difference.

Bringing together the story of our collective work and the impact it had, painted a picture of what really mattered, in order for the voices of the people doing the work to be heard.

To find out more about our collective story over the first 12 months of TIF, we've brought together a short video and presentation to share some of our key learnings and impact.
