J.A.S Product Design Services won the Sport England-sponsored Sports Technology Design Challenge, where entrants are asked to submit innovations that will help more women, young and disabled people play sport.
Judges at the Sports Technology Awards 2015 were impressed by the company's plan to develop customisable and adaptable seating for indoor and outdoor rowing. Special fittings and other adaptations enable disabled users to access the equipment, making it an attractive option for sports clubs wanting to make their venues more accessible.
Winners in other categories included Mercedes AMG Petronas’ Technical Chief, Paddy Lowe, who was awarded the prize for Sports Technology Innovator 2015 in recognition of Mercedes' domination of the F1 season.
Other award recipients included:
Jaguar and Team Sky, who won ‘Best Technology Partnership’ for their development of the Dogma F8 racing bike
- O2 and England Rugby, who took home ‘Best Use of Technology by a Sponsor’ for their creation of a user experience which leveraged Oculus Rift technology to allow fans to experience England elite squad training
- Powerboat P1, which triumphed in ‘Best Technology by a Governing Body, Federation or Rights Holder’ for its marine motorsport GPS tracking system
Competition was fierce across all categories, which spanned equipment, training and coaching tools, stadia, wearable technology, apps and broadcast.
