There is currently an even split of athletes across the two pathways, with 21 athletes on the snowboard pathway and 22 athletes progressing on the ski pathway.
Opportunities at home and abroad
Training takes place at a number of locations across the country, including Manchester, Halifax, Castleford, Bracknell, Stoke, Gloucester, Hemel Hempstead and Milton Keynes. Off-snow sessions all take place at Loughborough University while there are further opportunities avilable on training camps abroad that supplement the domestic programme.
Eight coaches work within the pathway on a camp-by-camp basis and have access to Snowsport England’s annual coaching conference and courses. Coaches are also encouraged to attend sessions with sportscoach UK throughout the year to assist in their development.
The support of our Talented Athlete Sponsorship Scheme (TASS) has been extremely valuable to six athletes on the pathway and has helped support one athlete to gold at the World Junior Championships. In addition, four athletes have progressed to the GB Park & Pipe team, with many on the pathway successfully negotiating sponsorship deals with ski and snowboard brands.
16 athletes have also benefited from a SportsAid award, which has proven invaluable in helping to finance what can be an expensive sport.
