Our talent development programme, run alongside British Athletics and England Athletics, funds coaches, personalised support and competitive meets.
Excellence as standard
Our Advanced Apprenticeship in Sporting Excellence (AASE), delivered through SkillsActive, is currently supporting 196 talented athletes.
Developed in 2004, the programme ensures athletes receive all the support and training they need to succeed.
The programme also provides athletes with the skills and qualifications needed to pursue a secondary career if they should fall short in their chosen sporting path. In all, 30 sports are covered by our Talented Athlete Sponsorship Scheme (TASS) and 19 athletes currently receive funding via the athletics pathway.
TASS provides personalised services for all athletes. That includes strength and conditioning, education and lifestyle support, sport psychology, and nutrition and sports medicine. Athletes also receive a sport-specific personal award to be used towards training, coaching and competition expenses.
The Futures programme is a UK-wide support programme for athletes aged 17 to 20 and is targeted at those who are potentially eight years away from an Olympic final. The programme supports athletes and personal coaches, both of which receive funding towards training, competition expenses and medical support.
One-to-one coach and club support is also included as part of the package, with development workshops, masterclasses and conferences bringing coaches together to share expertise.
The BA Development Manager and Futures programme staff are a consistent point of contact for advice and guidance throughout the year while online resources such as Power of 10 and uCoach also provide necessary targets and information to help develop the sport.
