Community Emergency Fund

This fund aimed to help community sport and physical activity organisations who experienced short-term financial hardship or the ceasing of operations due to the coronavirus crisis.

About the fund

This fund is now closed

As the country dealt with coronavirus (Covid-19), sport and physical activity organisations faced a hugely difficult period of time.

Our Community Emergency Fund aimed to deliver immediate funding to those most in need. It was specifically targeted at organisations, including those not previously supported by us, who had a role in supporting the nation to be active but who were experiencing short-term financial hardship or the ceasing of operations due to the crisis.

The types of organisations eligible included local sports clubs forced to close at short notice but who were facing ongoing costs around maintenance and utility bills, and voluntary and community sector organisations who delivered or enabled sport and physical activity.

The £35 million fund of National Lottery money was designed to complement other sources of funding from the government, such as funds targeted at small businesses.

How the fund progressed

How many applications did we receive? How many were approved? How much funding did we allocate?

We put together a tool that answered all those questions, and more.
