The South West England: Pre-Games Training Camp Guide including list of venues (pdf - 40.86kb)

Sixty venues from across South West England have been announced in Beijing by the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games and Paralympic Games at a Reception for senior representatives of National Olympic Committees (NOC).

The London 2012 Pre Games Training Camp Guide showcases the UK’s venues. South West venues are well represented across the seven counties and Guy Lavender, South West England Director for the 2012 Games and Ged Roddy, the representative for South West England on the London Organising Committee’s Nations and Regions Group, are in Beijing to showcase the venues and continue to build relationships for the sole purpose of  persuading leading nations to base themselves in the South West during the run up to the London 2012 Games.

As Guy Lavender said:

“Team South West is determined to ensure that our training venues are top of the list to be considered by international teams looking for a pre Games training camp during the run up to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. We have some superb venues across the region, both for major international teams, as well as some of the smaller nations and Beijing provides the opportunity to speak directly to those teams. In addition, all of the sailing teams will be very interested in training camp opportunities, with the 2012 sailing events being held in Weymouth and Portland.

"I firmly believe that bringing teams to the region has huge potential in generating economic investment and involving the whole of the community in a tangible way in the delivery of the Games. We are working closely with the 60 venues, local authorities and private sector partners to bring as many teams as possible into the region.”

Ged Roddy said:

“This is our opportunity to highlight the many world-class training venues and facilities the South West can provide for international sporting teams, both big and small. This is an important step in working towards ensuring the eyes of the world see the best that the South West has to offer.”
