JOBS IN SPORT
Sport England and stakeholders in sport across the South East are collaborating to build a Regional Plan for Community Sport for 2008-2012.
The first stage of this process was a regional stakeholder consultation event, which was held on Tuesday 17 July. The day provided opportunities to collaborate with other key organisations and individuals working to deliver community sport in the South East to shape a relevant plan that accurately reflects the challenges and ambitions specifically facing the South East region over the next four years.
Delegates list
The venue was Sandown Park Racecourse
Tthere will be a number of further opportunities for stakeholders to help drive the development of the plan throughout its consultation, revision and publication. By working to collaboratively develop and deliver the plan, we can ensure that it is relevant for all stakeholders in community sport, and benefits from a strong sense of shared ownership.
The review is timely, as it coincides with the development of a National Plan for Community Sport and the end of the lifecycle for Mission Possible: the Regional Plan for Sport 2004-2008.
Agenda
The day focused on ascertaining delegates' views and recommendations on the following key questions:
What are the challenges for community sport in the South East?
We know the Government has charged the South East with ensuring that, by 2012/13, 300,000 more adults are participating in sport three times a week for at least thirty minutes at moderate intensity. This ‘Active People Challenge’ also needs to dovetail with the Olympics legacy, and broader issues such as health, economy, and cohesion.
Where is sport in the South East now?
We know the Delivery System for Sport has been strengthened by the establishment of County Sports Partnerships and the development of the emerging Community Sports Networks. We also have an increasingly rich picture of participation, sports, and facilities.
What do we know about drivers of participation in the South East?
Including, what has and has not worked in raising participation, what remains unknown, and which market segments are most attractive.
How will we increase participation in community sport in the South East up to 2012?
Including, areas of focus (sports/activities and population groups), investment principles, and the risks and how are they managed.
What are the key activities and indicators of success?
