The free event provided SDOs with an opportunity to be updated on a range of topics. During the morning session, Sean Holt (South East Regional Director) provided SDOs with an update on London 2012 and how we can use the games as a catalyst to drive sports participation. Pete Gardner, a member of the Quadruple Sculls Team at the Athens Olympics, gave a presentation on what the games meant to him and how clubs, coaches and volunteers had helped him reach his sporting potential. Lisa O’Keefe (Head of Sports Development in South East) completed the morning session with a presentation to provide some clarity around the Single System for Community Sport.
After the lunch interval, an afternoon of workshop sessions and updates provided SDOs with information on a range of topics. These workshops were delivered by a range of partners and included areas such as child protection, successful workforce development, working effectively with higher and further education, volunteering and working effectively with School Sports Partnerships.
