Sport England in the North West is committed to assisting the local government sector to make the most of the improvement agenda. As part of this approach, a Seminar on Improving Quality Management was held at Wigan on 15 November 2006.

1....SEMINAR ON 15 NOVEMBER 2006

The key areas which were addressed were:

• The context for improvement
• Opportunities for establishing efficiency and benchmarking regimes
• The ‘Quest’ award – what it can do
• The Active People Survey – the diagnostic tool
• ISPAL – its goals and aspirations

2....SPORT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY AREAS (‘SPAAs’) and LOCAL AREA AGREEMENTS

As we get increasing clarity about how the new SPAAs will be resourced, the expectation of funding represents a good opportunity for affected local authorities to negotiate sport related targets in their Local Area Agreements.  A note on how to advocate for this is available here (pdf 38Kb)

A national Sport England ‘Briefing Note’ on how targets relating to sport and physical activity can be included in LAAs can be found here (pdf 1,107Kb).

Martyn Allison at the IDeA has prepared a TAES workbook for the whole of a cultural service, not just sport and active recreation. This can be found here (pdf 375Kb)
