Studying Sports Development:

Researching, teaching and writing in the field

An International Conference

Jointly Organised by the Centre for Youth Sport and Athletes Welfare at Brunel University and Elsevier

25-26th April, 2008

Lancaster Conference Centre

Brunel University, West London

Sports Development has increasingly been gaining recognition as a policy matter, a profession and an academic discipline. The growing popularity of sports development, however, has been accompanied by a number of challenges concerning its conceptualisation, competing uses, modes of enquiry and class room delivery.  The aim of this conference is to explore the theoretical, methodological and pedagogical advancements in sports development and to offer fresh perspectives for researching, teaching and publishing in the field.

Short papers are invited addressing issues pertinent to sports development in one of the following streams:

•Researching sports development (new theoretical perspectives and methods of enquiry)

•Teaching sports development (new and successful approaches for teaching in the field)

Papers should be up to 3,000 words in length and submitted to conference organisers by Friday, 11th April 2008. All peer reviewed accepted papers will be published on the conference website for the benefit of the sports development community.

Conference speakers include: Fred Coalter (University of Stirling), Barrie Houlihan (Loughborough University), Andy Pitchford (University of Gloucester), Jean Loup-Chappelet (Swiss Graduate School of Public Administration), Christine Green (University of Texas at Austin), Cora Burnett (University of Johannesburg), Nick Rowe (Sport England), Mike Collins (University of Gloucester), Celia Brackenridge (Brunel University) and others.

The conference is open to academics, students and professionals working in the field and no presentation is necessary for participation. The registration fee includes overnight accommodation, reception, meals, refreshments and conference materials. Registration deadline:
