Sport England's Active Design guidance - which aims to put sport at the heart of new building developments - was a finalist in the prestigious Royal Town Planning Institute Awards (RTPI) held at the Hilton Hotel, London last week .
The awards encourage and reward outstanding achievement in planning and celebrate the contribution made by the planning profession to the quality of life throughout the UK by raising awareness and understanding of pioneering work.
Last year, Sport England launched Active Design, an innovative new approach to getting local communities out of their armchairs and involved in sport. Active Design gives easy-to-use guidance and information to town planners and urban designers on how to put sport and activitiy at the heart of new housing and community developments .
The guidance expands on the three key Active Design objectives, the three 'A's'; improving Accessibility, Enhancing Amenity and Increaseing Awareness.
