The Research
This study provides the latest national sports participation data. The data comes from the 2002 General Household Survey (GHS) which is based on a sample of the adult population (aged 16 or over) resident in private households in Great Britain. Face-to-face interviews took place in the home, involving 17,463 adults in 12,159 households. Previously, questions on sport were most recently included in the 1996. The questions provide information on the level of participation in sport overall and within individual sports. In 2002 questions were also asked about volunteering and activities that people don't currently do but would like to.  Analysis is available by gender, age group and socioeconomic group.
