Emerging AAPs from South Cambridgeshire District (Northstowe and Cambridge East AAP, January 2006) provide good examples of the approach taken to proving for the full range of sport and recreation in new settlements (Northstowe) and urban extensions (Cambridge East).  Both AAP's require a formal sports provision strategy to be prepared for the respective developments and for the strategy to be implemented in full by the developments. A steering group is preparing the sub-regional major sports facility strategy which will inform the formal sports strategy for each development).  Both policies provide an indicative list of the facilities that the strategy has to explore, provides guidance on the location of facilities within the development and include an accessibility standard.  In addition, the Cambridge East AAP is an example of two districts working together to produce a joint DPD – even though most of Cambridge East will be in South Cambridgeshire district they are using the open space standards of Cambridge City as they are more appropriate to an urban extension.
