The Sports facilities calculator has been used in a variety of contexts, from individual development schemes, to major urban extensions, including master plans and supplementary planning  documentns.

Listed below are a number of these examples where the Sports Facilities Calculator has been used to help identify new,and future, demand for facilities created by new development.

British Paper Board and Corys Wharf sites, Thurrock District
1,500 dwellings are to be accommodated on two adjoining former industrial sites.  £1m secured towards the provision of new sports facilities to meet the additional demand created by the new housing. SFC used to quanitfying new recreational demand created by the develpoment.

Cranfield, Bedfordshire
This is an extension to a village of 450 dwellings which is awaiting the outcome of the public inquiry held January 2006. The developer has agreed to provide one indoor court as part of community hall development. SFC used to qualitify need for indoor sports facilities.

Master Plan, North Stowe
South Cambridgeshire District is taking a proactive approach towards sports provision within the Cambridgeshie growth area. A study of strategic sports and recreation needs for the sub-region has been commissioned by Cambridgeshire Horizons and has used the SFC to help quantify the additional recreational demand of the new settlement.

SEEDA - Guidance for large scale housing developments
Briefing notes have been developed by Sport England South East for SEEDA to take account of provision required on large scale development sites. The note provides information to enable the user to estimate demand for sports provision using the Sports Facility Calculator.

West Midlands Reagional Strategy
As part of the revision of the West Midlands Regional Strategy, the Regional Assembly is considering the infrastructure implications of three housing options.  These are:

The SFC regional figure has been used to establish the cost of swimming pools, sports halls and indoor bowls facilities for these three scenarios.

South East Plan
The Infrastructure Plan for the draft Regional Spatial Strategy makes use of the SFC to establish the needs for sports halls and swimming pools given the adopted growth figure of 28,900 new dwelling per year.  Figures are given for the region as a whole and for nine sub-regional areas.
