Sporting Champions is a Sport England initiative using the inspiration of world-class athletes to motivate young people to participate in community sport.

Through a national programme of 450 visits per year, the scheme works with around 120 athletes from a range of different sports and backgrounds. Champions attend events and clubs to run interactive sessions and spend time with the young people answering questions, offering advice and tips on how to improve their skills or join local clubs and signing autographs.

Sporting Champions from past and present include eleven-times Paralympic gold medallist Dame Tanni Grey Thompson, England footballer Sue Smith and 1500m Commonwealth gold medallist Lisa Dobriskey.

Visits are available on a local level through County Sport Partnerships.
