Improved facilities boost disabled use
The Manor Sports College in Nottinghamshire has been a big hit with disabled sportsmen and women since the extended facility opened in April 2002.
Over 2,600 visit the facility annually to enjoy a whole range of sports and activities made possible by Sport England’s investment of £1.4m of Lottery funding towards total project costs of over £1.9m
Sport England’s aim was to provide additional sports facilities to encourage the local community to get active and the response has been tremendous with over 190,000 people using the college.
The facility is also used as a ‘world class cell’ by the county badminton association and the Nottinghamshire Youth Games have also been held there.
The new facilities include a four-court sports hall and a small hall, a fitness suite, eight outdoor netball/tennis courts and changing rooms.
The other facilities on-site include a school gymnasium and a new floodlit ATP.

"The multi-sport hub concept has proven to be one of the most effective means to bring sport and physical activity directly into communities. This new approach focuses on the development of community hubs that combine multiple sports and activities and also have the potential to bring health, social welfare and educational services together under one roof. Sport England has committed to developing a network of multi-sport hubs across the country to boost the number of people actively engaged in sport."
