Thousands in the swim at Halewood
Getting on for half a million North West residents visit the state-of-the-art Halewood Leisure Centre each year following the up-grading of facilities there.
Sport England invested over £3.9m of Lottery funding in a project which replaced two poor quality facilities with one brand new one designed to encourage the community to become more involved in physical activity and sport.
The newly built centre included a 25m swimming pool, four-court sports hall, a large multi-purpose practice hall, health and fitness room, crèche, healthy living room, consultation/treatment room and a full size grass pitch.
Now Halewood offers a large range of courses, sessions and activities for all members of the community to help people make the most of their leisure time.
Halewood Leisure Centre factfile
"The multi-sport hub concept has proven to be one of the most effective means to bring sport and physical activity directly into communities. This new approach focuses on the development of community hubs that combine multiple sports and activities and also have the potential to bring health, social welfare and educational services together under one roof. Sport England has committed to developing a network of multi-sport hubs across the country to boost the number of people actively engaged in sport."
