Len Jackson - chair
A sales and marketing professional with over 30 years experience in the food industry and was Managing Director of a number of household name companies during the 1990s including Pork Farms in Nottingham and Bowyers in Wiltshire. Brings many years of experience of working with public sector bodies such as the East Midlands Development Agency, where he was a Director for 3 years from 1999 to 2001. He was awarded an OBE in 2002 for his chairmanship of a number of government and voluntary sector initiatives during the 1990s including New Deal and Common Purpose. He is a Commissioner with the new Independent Police Complaints Commission. Passionate about sport and still plays football, cricket and table tennis.


Ted Cassidy - vice chair
Head of regional partnerships, De Montfort University; former chair of Culture East Midlands, the Regional Cultural Consortium. Former deputy chair of East Midlands Development Agency. Long standing supporter of Leicester City Football Club.


Nicholas Bunting
Head of game investment, RFU; former sales and marketing director; national referee development officer for RFU (1997-1999), head of officiating and resources for RFU (1999-2001); Board member of Sports Coach UK, member of a Rugby Club; member of Referee Society, trustee of the Rugby Football Foundation and a district councillor.


Mary Butler
Director and regional chair of English Federation of Disability Sport. Founder member of Regional Awards for All Committees. International UK team management at major sporting events.


Professor Ted Cantle
Former Chair of the Queens Medical Centre in Nottingham and Board member of the Environment Agency. Associate for the Improvement and Development Agency and former Government Advisor on Community Cohesion. Chief Executive of Nottingham City Council from 1990 to 2001 and responsible for delivering the £43 million National Ice Centre. A very keen sportsman for many years.


Carol Chambers
Director of Children and Young People’s Services, Rutland County Council. Former teacher and Director of Education, Youth and Culture for the authority before being appointed to her current post. Regional Chair of the Director of Children's Services Forum and on the National Council of Children's Services. Member of local Learning and Skills Council, the Education Business Partnership Board and the Connexions Board.


Ian Drake
Deputy Chief Executive, British Cycling. Former teacher and founder of a nationally recognised Cycling initiative, whilst at the Frederick Gent School School in Derbyshire, to make cycling more accessible in schools as a curricular and extra curricular sporting activity. Worked for British Cycling for 10 years as National Talent Co-ordinator, Participation Director and Operations Director.


Christine Fisher
Chief Executive of North West Leicestershire District Council. After attending Loughborough University, had 20 years experience managing dual use leisure facilities and large leisure contracts. Managed five world events including live televised coverage. Assistant Chief Executive at Dacorum District Council for three years.


Tony Hams
Chair of the Peak District National Park Authority, 2002 - 2007. Member of PDNPA 1998 - 2008. Chair UK Association of National Park Authorities 2004 - 2007. Chair East Midlands Heritage Lottery Fund Committee 2001 - 2008. Board member of the Countryside Agency 2000 -2006. Board member Natural England 2006 >. Worked in local government for over 20 years in rural, recreational and environmental planning, then for 10 years with the Association of Metropolitan Authorities and the Local Government Management Board on national and international sustainable development policy development. Granted an OBE for services to sustainable development in 2000. A long distance walker and passionate about good architecture and design, Italy, Liverpool FC and family life in the Peak District.


Pam Jardine
Regeneration Programme Manager with the Neighbourhood Development Company in Nottingham. Great experience of working with disadvantaged communities and with BME groups. Sporting volunteer for many years and a graded track official. Particularly interested in grass roots sports and developing the potential in young people.


Sam Messam
A curriculum team leader for sport at Bradford College. Previously a lecturer in sport studies at Stephenson College, Coalville, a coach development officer at Greater Warwickshire Sport and a Prince's Trust Volunteers Team Leader until 2001. Been Head Coach of the University of Warwick Basketball Team for 7 years.


Jeff Moore
Chief Executive East Midlands Development Agency (emda), Chairman of the Investment Advisory Committee for the East Midlands Regional Venture Capital Fund and also a Board Member of the East Midlands Property Investment Fund. emda’s representative on the Derby Cityscape Board (URC) and Nottingham Regeneration Ltd. Enjoys football, cricket and golf


Professor Shirley Pearce CBE
Appointed Vice Chancellor at Loughborough University, succeeding David Wallace, in January 2006. She is academic and executive head for the university. A clinical psycologist who has worked in both the NHS and the higher education sector - awarded the CBE for services to education in the NHS. Before coming to Loughborough she was Professor of Health Phychology at the University of East Anglia, Director of the Institute of Health, non executive director of Norfolk, Suffolk and Cambridgeshire Strategic Health Authority and deputy chair of the Healthcare Commission.


Peter Richardson
Former Chief Executive of Derbyshire Building Society, who are main sponsors of Derby County Football Club, the Derby 10K run, and other major sporting events. Deputy Chair of Derby Cityscape. A keen jogger and a member of Kedleston Park Golf Club.


Duncan Sharkey
Chief Executive of West Lindsey District Council, previously with Corby, Boston and Hyndburn Borough Councils, detailed knowledge of local authority leisure and recreation provision, worked on community safety for a number of years, including setting up diversionary sports sessions in areas with anti-social behaviour issues.  Regular cyclist and interested in most sports, particularly baseball.
