LAA 2 Delivery Planning for Sport Presensations June 08
A Local Area Agreement (LAA) is a three year agreement that sets out the priorities for a local area, these are negotiated between the local strategic partnership (LSP), the regional Government Office (GO) and central government departments. The LSP consists of all the key players in a local area who deliver services, for example, local government, police, the Primary Care Trust, Further and Higher Education and representatives from business and the voluntary sector.
The local authority negotiates the LAA on behalf of its LSP and is the only body accountable to government. Government Offices have been given the leading role in negotiating LAAs. They provide local partners with a single point of contact with central Government.
New Style LAAs will be the delivery vehicles for agreed community objectives. The Local Government White Paper 'Strong and Prosperous Communities' published in October 2007 sets out the fundamentally different arrangements for these new style LAAs.
Local authorities will have unprecedented autonomy and flexibility to prioritise these community objectives. Sport in the East of England is currently well represented in these new style LAAs with 3 X 30 minutes participation in sport and active recreation embedded within 10 out of the 10 LAAs in the region.
The following sections aim to provide important information and reference material in relation to LAAs.
