The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills has published it's White Paper on ‘Higher Ambitions’ – the higher education blueprint. The White Paper outlines a framework to ensure increased opportunities for vocational and work based routes into foundation degrees, increased access to apprenticeships and investment into technical qualifications. The Paper also calls for stronger partnerships between schools, colleges and universities to support students in their progression to higher education.

Sport England contributed to this White Paper; specifically looking at engagement with the community and the way that higher education can act as a key contributor to drive sporting participation. Sport England stressed the importance of working with Universities and Colleges to support higher education to develop and deliver more high quality sporting opportunities both for students and the wider community.
