Free to Air Consultation
Following the publication of the Davies’
review into free to air sports broadcasting rights, the Department
for Culture, Media and Sport has launched a consultation asking for
further feedback before the Government makes their final
recommendations. Following a 12 week period of consultation, the
Secretary of State will announce the reviewed list. The
deadline for responses is 5 March.
The consultation is seeking feedback on the
economic and wider impact of listing as well as the extent to which
a sport has received direct or indirect public funding to support
its activities. The Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport
Ben Bradshaw has stated that if sports receive public funding there
is a duty that the public have access to watching it.
Sport England plans to respond to this
consultation and will keep Sports Policy News up to date with any
developments.
