Biography
I began Thai-boxing in 1998 and had my first professional fight
in 2002. Since then I have won two British Titles at 52 and 55
kilograms (both by knockout), a European title and the number one
spot in the World Rankings at both 50 and 52 kilograms.
Who was your biggest influence?
My husband, who gives me the time and support to train and
fight. Also my coaches who have invested time, effort and money in
me to enable me to compete on the world stage, particularly Master
A who saw potential in me before I had achieved anything and made
me believe it might be possible for me to win. Dave Croft (Bradford
Thai Boxing) who knocked on every door he could to raise
sponsorship to enable me to fight.
What is your proudest moment?
Winning my first British title, I fought the girl who had beaten
me in my first ever fight and I was the underdog as I was still not
very well known and in comparison to my opponent, very
inexperienced. I stopped her within the 1st minute of round 1. All
my family and friends were there to support me and it was the first
fight my husband had ever been to watch. When the MC announced I
was the “New British Champion” they all went wild
What is your tip for young people wanting to take part in
sport?
I already had a career and an education before I started
fighting professionally and have carried on with my education, I am
doing an MSc at Leeds Metropolitan University, but to anyone
starting out in a combat sport, get an education would be my
advice. You need something to fall back on in all sports but
especially a martial art.
What is your favourite food?
Thai food.
What is the best piece of advice you have been given?
- My trainer always says to me before I get in the ring, “don’t
worry about the result, just enjoy it” and that always makes me
relax and fight better.
