Headline Results

The results are based on responses from 44,960 people age 14 and over in England, who take part in sport regularly. Within each sport, respondents were surveyed from across three groups or levels of engagement with sport - general participants, affiliated club members and the talent pool.

The satisfaction with the quality of the sporting experience survey took place between March and May 2010.

For each of the 46 sports, respondents were asked questions about 10 different sporting 'domains' or areas of satisfaction: They were asked to rate their satisfaction with and the importance of each domain and the elements within each domain.

The 10 domains of satisfaction are as follows:

• Value for money
• Performance
• Social/belonging
• Facilities and playing environment
• Logistics/organisation
• People and staff
• Diversion/release
• Exertion and fitness
• Officiating
• Coaching.

Headline satisfaction scores provide an overall satisfaction rating out of 100 for each of the sports included in the survey and take into account the relative importance and satisfaction of each of the domains and the elements within them.

Headline satisfaction scores include:

• The overall satisfaction score; and the overall satisfaction score by engagement level (general participant, affiliated club member and talent pool) for each individual sport.
• The average satisfaction score across all sports (all 46 sports combined) and the average satisfaction score across all sports by engagement level.
