Through the Yorkshire Plan for Sport, Sport England is committed to widening the base and increasing participation in sport and physical activity in England by 1% per annum, by working with key organisations and individuals.
Increasingly sport and physical activity are being seen as a means of influencing people’s lives for the better, addressing community priorities and delivering sustainable solutions to local concerns. The government has recognised the important role of sport and the Secretary of State has written to all Council leaders and chief executives outlining how the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and local authorities can work together to improve the delivery of local opportunities for sport.
Local area agreements are a key tool in this process. The signing of the round two agreements and the start of the process for drawing up the next round provides an opportunity to integrate sport in these key plans. By the spring of 2007 all 15 single tier authorities in Yorkshire will be covered by a local area agreement. Here, you will find tools and information to help underpin the inclusion of sport in local area agreements.
