Sport England South East are committed to promoting and developing sports equity, both within our programme development and in our work with partner organisations. Centrally, Sport England are also committed to equality in sport, and you can connect with national strategies by clicking here.
Sports equality is about fairness in sport, equality of access, recognising inequalities and taking steps to address them. It is about changing the culture and structure of sport to ensure that it becomes equally accessible to all members of society, whatever their age, ability, gender, race, ethnicity, sexuality or socio-economic status.
To achieve sports equity we need to:
- Take account of the needs of different groups or communities within any given priority group
- Adopt the recommended practices of equal opportunities and managing diversity
- Address issues of fairness in the workplace and the way in which services are allocated and delivered
- Acknowledge and respect diversity
The priorities for Sport England South East includes actively supporting the implementation of the Equality Standard: A framework for sport and being proactive in supporting partners in raising participation levels across all sectors of the community
