North East conference to tackle sport inequalities
60% of women and 79% of people with limiting disability in the North East do no sport at all. Sport for all? The statistics around inequalities in sport are shocking and, quite frankly, unacceptable. The time is now to take action and the Regional Equality in Sport Conference on Wednesday 30 April  addressed this. more.

Positive Public for Paralympics
As North East athletes take centre stage at the Paralympic World Cup in Manchester the Olympic Delivery Authority reveal a positive attitude towards the Paralympic Games, reporting that according to a recent survey, 93 per cent of the UK public see Paralympic athletes as good role models for young people. 69 per cent of those polled stated that there should be more media coverage of Paralympic sport. The North East is a hot bed of talent for rising Paralympic athletes  with one of the greatest Paralympians of all time, Dame Tanni Grey Thompson, hailing from the region and insiring many.more

April is a HUGE month for swimming. The FINA World Championships took place in Manchester (9 – 13) with strong regional representation. Some North East swimmers have already secured a place to go all the way to Beijing but it is not just the elite who have their sights set on the Olympics. As the new Sunderland 50m pool ensures people throughout the region can enjoy Olympic sized swimming, Sport England brings you some North East swimming factoids.
