Equally Active - A Sport and Physical Activity Action Plan for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic Communities in London – Consultation on the draft

Over the last few months research and consultation has taken place to inform Equally Active - a Sport and Physical Activity Action Plan for Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) Communities in London.

We will shortly be consulting on the draft action plan and welcome your views and comments.  The Equally Active consultation draft and accompanying questionnaire will be available to download from this web site from early May to late May 2008, with a 3 week consultation response period.

Sport England London Region and the Greater London Authority, in collaboration with Sporting Equals, have commissioned Equally Active in order to:

create a broader understanding of the current and future sport and physical activity needs of BAME communities in London

recommend and encourage implementation of actions that will deliver an increase in participation in sport and physical activity, as well as an increase in sports volunteering and employment, by BAME communities

contribute to delivery of the London 2012 legacy.

The action plan identifies priority aims, actions and targets and highlights a wide range of organisations that need to take action if this ambition is to be achieved.

A steering consisting of key representatives of BAME communities and stakeholders involved in sport and physical activity in London has over seen development of the action plan.

Once we have reviewed the feedback received the final ‘Equally Active’ action plan will be published. This is likely to be in summer 2008.
