A new web based resource has been developed for health partners to support them with planning, delivering and measuring physical activity. It will also be of interest to local authorities who are working with partners to deliver physical activity particularly through Local Area Agreements and the Single System for Sport. The resource was launched at the UK Public Health Association Conference in Telford on 14/15th March, which attracts thousands of health professionals.
The resource has been produced following requests from Strategic Health Authorities (SHAs) and was further informed by a consultation with SHAs, Primary Care Trusts and other stakeholders.
The resource sets out the evidence base on how physical activity contributes to health across 4 targets groups (children, adults, older people and people with long term medical conditions), demonstrates how physical activity contributes to a range of Government and local targets, suggests the type of interventions that may be effective, provides suggestions on the type of data to be collected to measure impact and provides guidance on planning potential physical activity interventions.
