Geographic information - accessing profiles in your area

This section shows how the sporting segments are distributed locally, regionally and nationally. Data can be provided from postcode upwards to create unique geographic analysis.

The national picture
These maps illustrate the distribution of each of the 19 segments across England. View maps.

The local picture
Sport England has produced the market segment profile for each County Sport Partnership (CSP) and local authority. This shows the proportion of each segment in each local authority and CSP, compared to the national and regional picture. This is a great place to start exploring what market segmentation could mean for your area, for example which are the more prevalent segments in your area and what this means for sport and active recreation provision.

Coding up membership data with the Sport England segments
Sport England with Experian Business Strategies (who undertook the segmentation work) have developed a service which enables the coding up of membership data to the segments. This helps to provide a deeper understanding of who your customers are in relation to the segment profile in your area. More information.

Accessing the raw data
Sport Market Segmentation data is available free of charge to public sector not-for-profit organisations.  If you are any other type of organisation please contact the Research Team to discuss your requirements.

The data is in tabular (csv) format and therefore can be used within most statistical and geographical software packages.  To gain access to the raw market segmentation data please follow the link below to the Order Form and Licence Agreement document.  The document details the terms and conditions under which the data can be used. It will need to be signed by the end user and returned to Sport England before the data can be released. More
