Synthetic pitches - supply and demand study (1998/99)

Consultant: NOP World

The Research
This study was the second in a series of sports facility surveys. Its aim was to provide information on the levels and patterns of use of synthetic pitches in order to re-define a set of parameters for Sport England's Facilities Planning Model (FPM).

To achieve this the survey aimed to:

  • Establish the number and characteristics of customers in terms of gender, age group and social class
  • Establish frequency of visit, duration of activity and catchment area
  • Determine the balance (percentage of time) between club, school, casual and coaching/instructional usage
  • Measure the distribution of various types of usage between peak and off-peak times
  • Determine the range of sports offered and the percentage of time allocated to each

Progress to date: Project completed.
