Volunteers and coaches

Volunteers and coaches play a vital role in community sport all across England

Without the time, energy and commitment of these people, many clubs, team sport sessions and coaching sessions would not be able to run

Volunteers were of huge importance to me as a six-year-old. Looking back I’m able to clearly see and appreciate, how instrumental to my development they were

In short, volunteers and coaches make sport happen. Without this dedicated group of people, who willingly give their time to enable others to play the sport they love, grassroots sport wouldn’t exist.

In recognition of the importance of coaches and volunteers (either in a formal or informal setting), Sport England invests in a variety of partner organisations and programmes which are designed to upskill and support the people who make sport happen.

Sport England also works with the sports themselves to ensure that they have the tools and the knowledge to support the volunteers and coaches who deliver their sport.
