Do I need a DBS check for my volunteer role?

A DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check must be requested by the club/organisation you’re going to volunteer with. It’s not possible as a volunteer/individual to request a DBS check yourself. Clubs are legally required to assess the volunteering role and determine whether it’s one that requires a DBS check, as not all volunteering roles require one.

Find out more information on whether a DBS check is required for your position.

Note that different rules apply when you’re requesting a DBS check from a different country.
