SPORT ENGLAND AND SPORT RELIEF SAY ‘RISE TO THE CHALLENGE!’
On the 16 March you can join thousands of people from across the region and take part in the Ultimate Sport Relief challenge.
The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile will be taking place at over 200 destinations across the UK, where the cash you raise by getting sponsored, is spent by Sport Relief to change countless lives for the better.
There are two flagship Sport Relief Miles in the North East where there'll be celebrity Milers running alongside you, BBC TV cameras to capture the action, and great entertainment for you, your friends and your family to enjoy!
On Sunday the 16 March the Middlesbrough Mile will take place at Centre Square whilst the Gateshead Mile will be taking place at Saltwell Park . There are also a lot more mile events in towns throughout the region - so there’s bound to be one near you!
Judith Rasmussen, regional director with Sport England North East, says: “We are fully behind the Sport Relief Mile. It is fantastic that people in the North East will not only be getting active but will be having fun doing so and they raising money for Sport Relief to help vulnerable people both at home in the UK and across the world’s poorest countries.
“Sport Relief demonstrates the great power of sport and shows how it can change lives for the better. We would encourage everyone, all ages and levels of fitness, to pull on their running shoes at one of the events this Sunday and do their bit for a great cause. Rise to the Challenge – run the mile. Not only will you be changing your life for the better by getting more active but you will be making a difference around the world.”
