North East Sports Awards 2008 - a sport star studded night to remember North East sporting royalty gathered at the amazing Sunderland Aquatic Centre to see a number of Olympic and Paralympic athletes scoop the top gongs at the North East Sports Awards. There are very few award ceremonies that are held ON water but a 50m pool could not be a more fitting venue, following a year where you could be forgiven for thinking the regional sports heroes could walk on water! Olympic Bronze medallist, boxer Tony Jeffries scooped the top gong of Sports Personality of the Year to crown what has been a magnificent year. Find out who else took home an award.
