Legacy assured for London 2012 Database

28 February 2013 Government

Sport England has helped to secure a key element of the 2012 digital legacy today as LOCOG announced that it would be handing over its customer database to Sport England working in partnership with UK Sport and London & Partners.

Sport England and its partners will work with contributors from across the sport and arts sector to create exciting and interesting content for the emails which it will send to the 5.3 million people on the database from April. We have already agreed to work with Join In on volunteering content.

We will continue LOCOG’s Stay Inspired campaign to begin with but building on the model deployed so successfully by LOCOG from its earliest days the campaign themes will change and adapt over time.

Now we will use the database to build a lasting legacy from the London 2012 Games by getting more people involved in sports and culture across the UK.

The new newsletters will keep subscribers in the loop on a whole range of opportunities within their local community, exclusive ticket offers and the latest information on upcoming events such as UK Sport’s Gold Event Series including the forthcoming World Championships Triathlon, and Rugby League World Cup. There will also be chances to win “money can’t buy” competition prizes like access-all-areas passes, sessions with sporting and cultural heroes and fantastic merchandise.

We will be contacting potential contributors over the next few weeks – watch this space.
