More people playing sport
Sport England today published the latest snapshot from
its Active People Survey on sports participation.
Results show that the positive trend in overall sports
participation in England is continuing, with the number of adults
who play sport at least three times a week reaching 7,008,000, an
increase of 193,000 in the past 18 months.
The survey also measures progress against our investment in
individual funded sports. Among those achieving significant
increases were sports which have programmes encouraging more
flexible participation, such as British Cycling’s Sky Ride and
England Netball’s Back to Netball. The number of adults cycling at
least once a week has increased by more than 100,000, with netball
up by almost 20,000.
More details can be found in the research
section of our website.
The headline results of Sport
England’s sporting satisfaction survey have also been published
today. They show that participants from over 40 sports gave an
overall satisfaction rating of 76.5 out of 100.
The survey provides insight to governing bodies, enabling them
to drive improvements for their customers. The results show that
the sports with the highest overall satisfaction scores are
angling, bowls, mountaineering, orienteering, shooting and
taekwondo.
