A message from Jennie Price

Jennie Price, chief executive of Sport EnglandJennie Price, chief executive of Sport England

The following letter has been sent today by Sport England’s Chief Executive, Jennie Price, to the chief executives of the National Governing Bodies of sport in receipt of whole sport plan funding awards from Sport England.

You will have read in the media that the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, and most of its sponsored bodies, are to make savings of three per cent from their Exchequer budgets in the current financial year. For Sport England, this amounts to £4.254 million.

It is our intention to deliver the majority of the savings through further reductions in administration and back office functions. This will be challenging, given the £20 million savings we are already delivering in our administration costs over the current three-year spending period. However, we understand that everyone must play their part in dealing with the overall fiscal challenge.

I wanted to reassure you that, in achieving these £4.254 million savings, we will not be reducing whole sport plan awards for 2009 -13. This is in line with our commitment to you, and Government, that our work with National Governing Bodies is at the heart of the strategy to create a world-leading community sport environment, and a meaningful participation legacy from 2012.

I will keep you informed of any further developments, but in the meantime please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.

Yours sincerely,

Jennie Price
Chief Executive
