Community Club Development Programme (CCDP)

Sport England has announced that more than 1,000 projects – over three times as many anticipated at the start of the scheme – have benefited from the Community Club Development Programme (CCDP).

CCDP is a collaboration between Sport England, the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, and National Governing Bodies of Sport (NGBs). The programme assists NGBs to identify capital projects for investment. They then work in partnership with Sport England to ensure the projects are delivered.

Following its success, the programme has been extended for a further two years with an additional £40 million of funding and now includes three new sports: boxing, golf and squash.

In London 65 awards have been given out,  totalling £4,851,679 of investment, including the following clubs:

Redbridge Judo Club received a grant of £656,621 towards a new built one mat judo facility with associated changing facilities. Redbridge Judo Club was strategically identified by the British Judo Association for investment. Although the club has always managed to balance the books, it has never managed to gather enough resources to build a new facility. This investment will help a thriving club continue to prosper and will aid the long term sustainability of judo in Redbridge and other parts of London.

Richmond Canoe Club received a grant of £135,000 towards the modernisation of their clubhouse. The project seeks to reinstate the changing facilities and showers, gymnasium, kitchen and social area. The objective is to make the club premises useable, and in doing so, meeting the needs of all paddlers and key target groups (local schools) in the area transforming the club into a flagship canoeing centre.

Ellenborough Table Tennis Club, based in Enfield, received a grant of £593,000 towards the modernisation and extension of their existing facilities. The grant will increase the playing capacity by 20% and provide new changing and social provision. The club has a long history of providing opportunities to the local community, which culminated with the club being award the CCPR ‘Club of the Year’ in 2002. The club has achieved ‘Premier Club Excellence’ level from their governing body, English Table Tennis Association, which is the highest accreditation mark awarded by the NGB. The club is an excellent example of a local community sports club that offers numerous opportunities for the local community and local schools.

added to the programme from 2006-2008.

Richard Caborn, Minister for Sport, said: "The Community Club Development Programme has been a true success and demonstrates the pivotal role that good quality sports provision has for East Midlands communities. Not only is it vital for the support and development of young talent beyond the school grounds, it is also key to getting people active and tackling obesity.

Originally 16 National Governing Bodies benefited from this programme including: badminton, basketball, canoeing, cricket, cycling, football, gymnastics, hockey, judo, netball, rowing, rugby league, rugby union, table tennis, tennis and swimming. Boxing, golf and squash were added to the programme from 2006-2008.
