Participation modelling (Tier 5) – The model is in the form of a chart which presents the expected sport participation rates in local authorities compared to the actual participation rates (as measured in the survey). It is based on a regression model determining the main economic and demographic factors that influence sport participation.

Small Area Estimate maps (Tier 1) – These provide an estimate of 3x30 participation levels down to Middle Layer Super Output Area level for each local authority. This has been calculated using a model which incorporates factors which influence sports participation.

Market Segmentation (from October 2007) – Sport England’s Market Segmentation information is based on Active People results, Taking Part Survey results and Experian databases. It divides the population into 19 different segments based on demographics, and highlights the types of sport they would be likely to be interested in and the best marketing approaches to use to engage them. There will be a breakdown of the proportion of each segment in each local authority. Market segmentation can be used to effectively plan projects and marketing campaigns tailored to meet local needs.
