Celebrating Sports Awards

Celebrating Sport Awards

Much of the sport taking place locally goes on largely unnoticed for most of the year, whether it’s volunteers turning out week in week out to provide coaching opportunities for young people at their local sports club, teachers enthusing their pupils or young people striving to be the best they can be at their chosen sport.

Through the Celebrating Sport Awards, PRO-ACTIVE North London, together with the London Boroughs of Barnet, Haringey and Waltham Forest, aim to recognise and reward achievement in and commitment to sport and physical activity, and to simply be able to say ‘thank you’ to people who contribute towards the health and cultural well-being of local people. Events are planned to take place each year up until 2012 and beyond.

The objectives of the Events are:

•To reward and recognise sporting achievement and commitment, both in terms of recognition and a small financial reward

•To demonstrate work and the activities and achievements of local people, linked to London 2012

The annual Events will provide a ‘showcase’ to reward and recognise key individuals and organisations in each Borough. Categories vary from Borough to Borough, but include, Volunteer of the Year, Coach of the Year, Sports Performer of the Year, Disabled Sports Performer of the Year, Club of the Year and School of the Year. Haringey and Waltham Forest have also have a scheme recognising and rewarding talented young sportsmen and women in their Boroughs. Shortlisted nominees and their guests will be invited to the Awards evenings, from 6.30 – 9.00pm, details of which are as follows:

Waltham Forest Tuesday 6th NovemberThe SCORE Building, Leyton

Haringey Wednesday 21st November  Tottenham Hotspur FC

Nominations for Barnet and Waltham Forest are now closed, but nominations for the Haringey awards can be made now, by going to www.pro-activenorthlondon.org/haringeyCSA
