Levels of participation by local authority area
Consultant: MORI
The research Increasing levels of physical activity is a core objective for sporting organisations in England. However, a lack of reliable information at local level regarding actual levels of participation was identified. Therefore, the specific aim of this research was to provide data on physical activity and sports participation amongst a regionally and locally representative sample of adults aged 16 years and over from across the Yorkshire region in order to reliably benchmark local authority areas against a set of key policy related indicators.
The size of the study makes it one of the largest and most robust pieces of research ever to be conducted into participation rates (Yorkshire 21,141 interviews; over 1,000 per local authority). The questions provide information on the level of participation in sport and physical activity in leisure time and level of active transport. Data is also available for levels of volunteering, club membership, participation in competitive sport and proportion of respondents receiving coaching.
Analysis is available by gender, age group, ethnicity, disability, and socio-economic classification for Yorkshire, sub-regions and local authority areas.
