Sport Facts 2007/8

Following the detailed sport evidence packs that Sport England published in June 2008, further sport specific information has been compiled in a series of sport 'factsheets'. Data from Sport England's Active People Survey 2 across 35 different sports highlights sport participation rates, data around organised sport (club membership, tuition, organised sport), participation rates across the nine English regions, and latent demand for sport. Where possible, Active People Survey 2 results (2007/8) are shown against Active People Survey 1 results (2005/6) to indicate where any changes in participation have occured in the two years from 2005/6 and 2007/8.

Sport Facts 2005/6
In June 2008, Sport England published detailed sport evidence packs, which bring together data from the first year of the Active People Survey, (Active People Survey 1) the Taking Part Survey, and Sport England's market segmentation.

Each pack includes information on the following: participation rates in each sport across key demographic groups, participation by region, the profile of sports participants, the segments most likely to participate in the sport, young people's participation (11-15 year olds), seasonal variation in participation, drop off in participation by age, latent demand, growth by sport, and participation in organised sport.

These packs were prepared primarily to support the National Governing Bodies of Sport in the development of their 2009-2013 plans but provide a detailed overview of sports facts relevant to all in the sports sector.

Comparative data across all sports
Sport England has also provided comparator profiles of sports participation, which bring together all of the data in the sport evidence packs (based on data from 2005/6). This enables comparisons to be made across different sports. More
