The research The overall aim of the project is to establish the condition of the current stock of public sector sports facilities in England and to estimate the capital costs of bringing this stock up to a safe and usable standard both now and in the next 10 years. The project aims to repeat a study carried out in1995.
To achieve the overall aim the research aims to
- Establish the state of health of the current stock of public sports facilities taking account of age, structural condition, state of repair and the condition of plant and machinery
- Determine the action required:
- Immediately to bring the stock up to a safe and acceptable standard
- In the future to maintain the stock to this standard for the next 10 years
- Determine typical costs for different aspects of maintenance, refurbishment and replacement of public sports facilities
- Determine overall capital costs associated with bringing all the facilities up to a safe and acceptable standard
A questionnaire will be sent out to all local authorities asking about the condition of the following facility types:
- Main pools
- Ancillary pools
- Main sports hall
