Research This survey represents another in the series of Sports Facility Surveys undertaken within the More Places programme.
The survey will illustrate the demand for indoor tennis centres by providing data on the levels and patterns of use in three areas of best supply - areas where there is little or no latent demand.
These results will enable the recalibration of Sport England's Facilities Planning Model (FPM) for indoor tennis centres. Consequently, when the model is applied to any geographical location it will be able to compare existing supply with a scenario of 'best supply' and thus identify the scale of any deficiency and the subsequent priorities for development.
To achieve the relevant data the survey has the following objectives:
- Establish the number and characteristics of customers in three areas of best supply in terms of gender, age group, ethnic origin, disability and social class
- Establish their frequency of visit, the duration of activity and time/distance travelled
- Determine the balance (percentage of time) between club, casual, school and coaching/instructional usage
- Measure membership usage as a percentage of total usage
- Measure the distribution of various types of usage between peak and off-peak times
